Tour Down Under Race Doctor Peter Barnes has advised that Rabobank rider Mathew Hayman, who crashed today in the final 300 metres of the sprint into Strathalbyn at the end of Stage 4, has undergone successful surgery to repair his fractured left collar bone.
Surgeons have inserted a plate and screws to stabilise the break and speed his return to racing.
Doctor Barnes says Hayman’s surgery went well and he is resting comfortably. He is expected to be back on his bike within a week.
