The hopes and aspirations of David O’Loughlin from Cong getting an automatic place on the track for the Olympic Games in Beijing rest at the World Cycling Championships in the Velodrome at Manchester today.(Wednesday)
He is participating in the four kilometre individual pursuit against the best in the world. Currently he is placed tenth on the world ranking ladder.

“I know it is make or break time, but at the last world cup event in Copenhagen last month, I just missed out on a Bronze medal. Those ranking points achieved in Denmark have afforded me the window of opportunity to realise the dream of any cyclist representing their country,” said David.
Realistically, he needs to get a top six placing which would be suffice for Asia.
His team mates from the Pezula Team Racing gave him the right fillip at the weekend to succeed when Ciaran Power (who also wants to represent Ireland in the Road Race) won Ras Mumhan and Ryan Connor won the Tour of the North. Currently the team have the champagne on ice in readiness for the celebrations!
